MY HUSBAND STARTED SMELLING TERRIBLE

— WHEN THE DOCTOR FOUND OUT WHY, I DIDN’T KNOW WHETHER TO LAUGH OR CRY
It all started in a strange and, to be honest, embarrassing way.
My husband began to smell awful. Not a normal sweat smell or poor hygiene — it was something strong, persistent, and almost impossible to hide. I changed the sheets, switched soaps, washed the clothes twice… nothing worked.
After weeks of trying to ignore it, I made a decision.
“We’re going to the doctor,” I told him. “This isn’t normal.”
I scheduled an appointment with a urologist and decided to go with him for support. My husband looked nervous but agreed. We arrived at the clinic, and he went in alone. The doctor closed the door.
Five minutes later, the door opened again.
The doctor stepped out with a red face, clearly trying not to laugh. When he saw me, he cleared his throat and said:
“You might want to come in and see this for yourself.”
My heart raced.
“Doctor, what’s going on? Why are you laughing?” I asked, already imagining the worst.
At that moment, my husband came out of the room, scratching his head, clearly embarrassed.
“Dear…” he began, unable to look me in the eye. “I don’t know how to say this, but… I…”
He took a deep breath.
“I’ve been using your shower sponge.”
I froze.
“The face one,” he added. “Every day. For months.”
I looked at him, then at the doctor, who could no longer hold back his laughter.
Still laughing, the doctor explained that the sponge had accumulated bacteria and that using it on intimate areas could cause exactly that terrible smell — without any illness involved.
“Never share bath sponges again,” he said, wiping tears of laughter from his eyes.
I left the office not knowing whether to laugh, scream, or buy an entire stock of new sponges.
That day, we learned two important lessons:
1️⃣ communication prevents embarrassment,
2️⃣ and bath sponges should never be shared.
Since then, my husband smells wonderful.
And I… never left my sponge within his reach again.
