“I Object!” — Elderly Man Interrupts Wedding, and a Minute Later the Groom Is Arrested

At thirty, Hilary believed she had finally found true love. She met Myron at a casual gathering, and within minutes, he charmed her with compliments and attention. It had been a long time since she had felt so seen by someone.
That evening, Myron stayed by her side, cracking jokes and sharing personal stories. The next day, he asked her out, and shortly after, he confessed:
— Hilary, I think you’re the woman I’ve been searching for. Will you be my girlfriend?
— Yes! she replied, delighted.
They began dating, and after five months, Myron surprised her with a marriage proposal at an upscale restaurant. Hilary accepted immediately, with tears streaming down her face. Although her parents found the proposal too soon, they eventually approved after seeing how devoted he appeared.
But slowly, Hilary started to notice strange behavior.
— I can’t wait for all the gifts! People are going to bring expensive stuff! he said, with greedy excitement.
Just before the wedding, Myron came to her house with an unexpected request.
— I think we should sign a prenuptial agreement. Let’s add a clause: if you ever file for divorce, you’ll have to pay me a fortune, he said with a cold chuckle.
Feeling uneasy, Hilary consulted her lawyer, who explained that such clauses were not uncommon. Still, her suspicions lingered.
Then, while cleaning Myron’s cupboard a few days later, she found a divorce certificate with his name on it.
— That marriage was a mistake. I was young and impulsive, Myron claimed, reassuring her once again with his persuasive words.
But Hilary couldn’t shake the growing sense of doubt.
The day before the wedding, she overheard him whispering on the phone:
— If you mess this up, I won’t be able to cover for myself…
When she questioned him, he casually said it was his ex threatening to show up.
Hilary remained nervous, but the wedding day arrived. She walked down the aisle, holding her father’s arm, trying to suppress her doubts. At the altar, the priest began the vows, and then asked the traditional question:
“If anyone objects to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
Suddenly, a man’s voice rang out:
— I object! I can’t let Myron marry this innocent woman!
Gasps filled the chapel as a group of police officers stormed in and attempted to restrain Myron, who tried to flee.
The man who objected introduced himself:
— I’m Myron’s estranged father. You can call me Mr. Brown.
— He cut me off when I discovered he’s a professional gigolo, marrying women to scam them out of money. I couldn’t let this continue.
Hilary was stunned. Everything started making sense—the gifts, the prenuptial clause, the secrecy.
The case went to court, and Myron was ordered to repay every woman he had deceived.
Though heartbroken, Hilary felt relieved that the truth had come out before she committed her life to a fraud. From that day on, she promised herself she would always trust her instincts.
