Over the weekend, Mingus Reedus — the 25-year-old son of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) and model Helena Christensen — was arrested in New York City following an alleged altercation with a 33-year-old woman. He now faces five charges but has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Arrest and Charges

Mingus was taken into custody on Saturday, August 23, at around 8:40 a.m. He was initially charged with two counts, assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, but prosecutors later added more charges. These include recklessly causing physical injury, aggravated harassment, and harassment.

According to reports, the victim — identified as Mingus’ girlfriend of five months — suffered minor injuries to her neck and leg. Prosecutors claim Mingus punched her in the leg, choked her, and slammed her to the floor.

Legal Defense

Mingus’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry — who also represented actor Jonathan Majors in his assault case — called the incident a “misunderstanding.” Chaudhry stressed that the woman is not afraid of Mingus, has moved out of their shared apartment, and does not intend to pursue charges.

“Despite what the prosecutor said in court — which is not evidence — the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office chose to charge Mingus only with misdemeanors or lesser offenses. This speaks volumes, and much louder than the unsupported prosecutor’s in-court comments,” Chaudhry said in a statement to People.

Mingus is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday, August 26.

Public Reaction

After his release, Mingus was seen returning to his New York City apartment on Sunday, August 24. When approached by paparazzi, he made a disturbing comment: “You want to watch me kill myself?” He also reportedly insulted a reporter outside the courtroom, calling them “ugly.”

Prior Arrest

This is not Mingus Reedus’ first encounter with the law. In September 2021, he was arrested at the San Gennaro festival in New York City after allegedly punching a 24-year-old woman in the face. At the time, he claimed it was an accident. In March 2022, he accepted a plea deal and was convicted of disorderly conduct.
